How to Show the Value of a Broad Marketing Role on Your CV

Posted on 25 August 2026

Many marketing roles cover far more than the job title suggests.

You might manage social media, create content, organise events, update the website, support email campaigns and report on performance, all within the same position.

That breadth can be incredibly valuable. But when everything is added to a CV as a separate responsibility, it can start to look like a long list of tasks rather than evidence of your impact.

Here’s how to present broad marketing experience more clearly.

Group similar responsibilities together

You don’t need a separate bullet point for every platform, campaign or task you have worked on.

Instead, group related responsibilities into clearer areas. For example:

  1. Content and social media

  2. Campaign delivery

  3. Website and email marketing

  4. Events and partnerships

  5. Reporting and analysis

This makes your experience easier to understand and helps employers quickly see where your strengths sit.

Make your level of ownership clear

There is a significant difference between supporting a campaign and being responsible for delivering it.

Use language that accurately reflects your involvement:

  1. Led the delivery of…

  2. Managed the campaign from planning through to reporting…

  3. Took ownership of…

  4. Worked alongside the Marketing Manager to…

  5. Coordinated activity across…

This provides much more context than simply saying you “worked on” something.

Include the purpose behind the work

Marketing activity should usually support a wider business objective.

Where possible, explain what the work was intended to achieve. This might include generating leads, increasing customer engagement, supporting a product launch, improving retention or raising brand awareness.

For example:

“Managed monthly email campaigns to support customer retention and increase engagement across the existing database.”

Even if you don’t have access to every commercial result, showing that you understand the purpose of the activity makes your experience feel more considered.

Add evidence of your impact

Results help employers understand the scale and value of your work.

Relevant evidence might include:

  1. Increases in website traffic, engagement or conversions

  2. Improvements in email open or click-through rates

  3. Leads or revenue generated by a campaign

  4. Audience or database growth

  5. Event attendance

  6. Budgets managed

  7. Projects delivered within a particular timeframe

You don’t need a statistic for every bullet point. A few meaningful results will be more effective than filling your CV with numbers that lack context.

Tailor the emphasis for each role

A broad background allows you to position your experience differently depending on the opportunity.

For a content-focused role, give more space to content planning, copywriting and campaign delivery. For a digital position, prioritise channels, data and performance. For a Marketing Manager role, make your ownership, decision-making and stakeholder management more visible.

You don’t need to rewrite your entire CV for every application, but the most relevant experience should be the easiest to find.

Breadth can be a real strength

Broad marketing experience can demonstrate adaptability, commercial awareness and an understanding of how different channels work together.

The key is to give it structure.

Your CV shouldn’t try to document every task you have ever completed. It should help an employer understand what you owned, what you achieved and the value you could bring to their marketing team.
