AI is becoming more common in recruitment. From CV-screening tools to automated shortlisting, many companies are using technology to speed up hiring. But what does that mean if you’re a marketer applying for your next role?

The reality is that in some cases, an algorithm may be the first thing to “read” your CV. That can feel daunting, but with a few small tweaks you can make sure your application doesn’t get lost in the filter.

1. Get the Basics Right

AI looks for structure. Clear headings, consistent formatting, and bullet points that highlight responsibilities and results will make your CV easier for both software and hiring managers to scan.

2. Use Keywords That Matter

Think about the skills that are most relevant to the job you’re applying for, whether that’s SEO, PPC, campaign management, or content strategy. Make sure they’re visible in your CV and LinkedIn profile.

3. Show Impact, Not Just Activity

Instead of simply listing what you did, show what you achieved. “Managed social media channels” is fine, but “Grew Instagram engagement by 45% in six months” is far stronger and more likely to be picked up by AI filters too.

4. Don’t Forget the Human Touch

Even if AI gets you onto a shortlist, it won’t be the one interviewing you. Hiring managers still want to see your creativity, adaptability, and passion. That’s what sets marketers apart, and what no algorithm can replicate.

5. Keep It Personal
